Why The Spot Is Almost More Important Than Your Outfit
In photography, the shooting spot is a real matter! The background is like a staple leather jacket or a great coffee before starting your day perfectly! I’ll explain you why the spot is almost more important than your outfit — as a novice photo-lover!
Light Or No Light?
♥ You have to find THE good compromise between these two opposite.
→ Very early or during the golden hour, which is actually the best according to me!
Find The Decent Balance
♥ My point is that you have to find a place where there are not too many buildings and not too much greenery. Without exception!
→ For example, I think we did a great job here. There was too much greenery on my left but we quickly took care of it!
Don’t Be Boring
♥ It’s so boring to always see the same surrounding, you know… Don’t make your readers tired!
→ A new spot every single photo shoot.
Avoid The Tourist Thing
♥ As a native Parisian, I’m not fond of shooting just in front of the Parisian monuments. If I do so, that’s just for fun and because there is something special such as a different viewpoint.
→ I’m always looking for the cutest streets you’ve never seen before! I think it’s even more magical, my point of view!
Match Your Outfit
♥ It’s optional!
→ I’m overly perfectionist, if the background doesn’t match: next please!

I agree 100%. When I look at fashion bloggers’ pictures, I judge the entirety of the photo, not just the outfits! I know, it sounds awful! But you really need the whole package to get noticed by others!
Your photos are absolute perfection! I love that you consider your background. And to be honest, if you tried photographing yourself in front of famous monuments, you will probably get a lot of tourists in the background, not pretty! It’s a great idea to take photos on side streets.

Love what you did to your Balenciaga! I have the same one, in the same size, but in suede! Totally copying this style! Enjoy your weekend, dear :*

Fabulous outfit! I really like the top and the skinny jeans.

I totally agree! Always looking for great spots to take photos matching or complimenting the outfit 😉

I definitely agree, and I have to say, the spot is actually one of the reasons why I post so rarely on my blog! I tend to go out and take tons of pictures of a certain outfit, and when I get home and see them I discover that the clothes don’t match at all with the background.
It’s super frustrating, especially since I live in quite a small city with not a ton of great places for a photoshoot. Guess I just have to look harder!

These tips are so helpful. I absolutely agree with you about shooting very early or during golden hour. Too much sun has ruined a few of my photo shoots.

This is really interesting to read, especially as I’ve only written one fashion post so far. I think you are so right about choosing a different background every time. Variety is the spice of life! x

I totally agree with you on those points dear! What I love about your pics is that they are not taken in front of those typical sightseeing spots – you make me see Paris from a very different angle 🙂

You make a really, really good point! I used to focus on the location and forget about lighting, and now I’m focussing too much on lighting and not enough location haha . I’ll have to find a balance! Love this striped jumper on you by the way girl.

Hi Violette,
I totally agree with all your points. I find it hard to avoid tourists in Geneva so we take photos in nature a lot. Than it is also easier to play with light. 🙂

This post definitely speaks to me and I wish people did this more! I love the striped top, it looks so good on you!
I wish bloggers took the time to figure this out more and really find good spots or take the time to match as well! Lighting is also so key and sometimes you have to shift to get the right spot!

I love that striped sweater and that new gorgeous bag, V, such a cute outfit! You’ve made some really great points here for creating beautiful and interesting photos. I agree, having the same background over and over again can get a little redundant, so it’s nice to switch things up a bit. I love you showcase the different streets and viewpoints of a Parisian local, you’re right, most have us have never seen these streets before, so it’s great to get a non-tourist-y viewpoint sometimes! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week ahead, beauty!

TOTALLY AGREE! Ahah, you look gorgeous girl!
This is so true, lighting and scenery are everything. I’m always trying to find places that are fun and interesting. However, because my family takes a lot of my pictures it can be hard to shoot early in the morning or during the golden hour. I love looking at your pictures, I get to see Paris thru your eyes. Hope you’re having a great start to the week!

I couldn’t agree more that the background is just as important as the outfit when shooting outfit photos. 🙂 It adds a story to the outfit and puts an outfit into context in a lifestyle setting.

You are so right, girl! Location, location, location 🙂 I love how your striped top matches the zebra crossing ♥
Hope you are having a great week, lovely Violette!

I definitely agree that it is more magical to see the regular beautiful streets of Paris, than the iconic spots we have seen again and again. I love Paris so so much, but I wouldn’t even say it was the iconic places I love, it is more the every day.
